What the free plan actually includes
Photoroom's free plan is genuinely usable for occasional edits, but its meter is exports: 25 per week and 100 per month. An export is any download, save to device, share as a file, or Shopify publish — and a Batch export counts one export per image, so downloading a batch of 10 images uses 10 exports.
That math matters for sellers. A modest catalog refresh — 30 SKUs with four placements each — is 120 exports, more than the free plan allows in an entire month. The free plan is a trial surface for single images, not a way to run a store.
Credits vs exports: the two meters
Paid plans meter two things separately. AI credits power the generative tools (AI Backgrounds, AI Fashion Models, Edit with AI, the video generator); exports meter every image you take out of the product. Core tools — background remover, retouch, AI fill, image enhancer — are unmetered on paid plans within fair use.
