What the free plan actually includes
Photoroom's free plan is genuinely usable for occasional edits, but its meter is exports: 100 per month. An export is any download, save to device, share as a file, or Shopify publish — and a Batch export counts one export per image, so downloading a batch of 10 images uses 10 exports.
That math matters for sellers. A modest catalog refresh — 30 SKUs with four placements each — is 120 exports, more than the free plan allows in an entire month. The free plan is a trial surface for single images, not a way to run a store.
Credits vs exports: the two meters
Paid plans meter two things separately. AI credits power the generative tools (AI Backgrounds, AI Fashion Models, Edit with AI, the video generator); exports meter every image you take out of the product. Core tools — background remover, retouch, AI fill, image enhancer — are unmetered on paid plans within fair use.
Photoroom's October 12 comparison lists up to 4,000 AI Backgrounds Studio (Basic) generations or 400 Product & Listing AI generations from Pro's 8,000-credit pool, if all credits go to that one feature. Credits are not an image count, and allowances can vary by region.

Full disclosure: AI Media Studio is our product, so read this section with that in mind. The comparison is still straightforward, because the two tools meter different things.
Starter costs $19/month with 1,000 monthly credits. Product workflows can generate listing, lifestyle, social and website images from a reference photo, but each generated output uses credits. Catalog batch requires Pro ($49/month) or above and sufficient credits for every selected output and product. A listing pack is a group of outputs, not an unlimited allowance.
Brand kits guide style and saved product references guide the subject; neither guarantees identical labels, shapes or fine details. Inspect each result against the original before publishing.
